Breaking Barriers: Taking Smart Risks to Get the Job Done

Description

We're living and working in disruptive times (you already knew that). We often hear comments about the public service not being able to respond to the challenges that come with this. The attitude persists that "it can't be done," "it's against the rules," "it'll never happen."

We think it's time for an open conversation about risk and breaking barriers. We need to talk about the risk of inaction as well, and how we can collectively harness disruption for the public good.

Join us for a conversation with Government of Canada colleagues who have an established track record in the art of virtuous disruption. We'll talk about:

  • challenging the status quo, or our assumptions about it
  • personal leadership and organizational acumen – creating space and opportunities for change
  • taking calculated risks by seeding new ideas and approaches that benefit teams and the Canadian public

Speakers:

  • Paula Folkes-Dallaire, Director General, Defence Procurement, Public Services and Procurement Canada (Washington)
  • Anatole Papadopoulos, Chief Operating Officer, Canadian Digital Service, Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat
  • Barbara Raymond, Executive Medical Advisor to the Vice-President, Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Branch, Public Health Agency of Canada
  • Tolga Yalkin, Assistant Deputy Minister, Workplace Policies and Services, Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat

Moderator:

Pascale Elvas, Senior Director, Priorities and Planning, Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat
